Re-Motoring Completed

Completed enough.

I’m trying a new gallery tool, if it does anything funny let me know.  Click on the pictures for large versions.

Last evening I finished re-assembling the engine and soldering on a few missing parts.  I think this is as far as I will go with this for now as I want to get some other things completed before the next train show.

It runs great!  Nice and smooth with excellent slow speed performance.  This is with DC, once I install a good decoder with back EMF that performance will get even better.

I have a video of it running, if I can get it uploaded I will add it here.

  1. Hi Tim,

I, too, have an old Aristocraft boxcab that I’ve added an NWSL Stanton 1210 drive to. I’ll be adding a decoder to it as well. Can you tell me how you wired the unpowered truck of your model? Its mounting is insulated so it’s easy to use the center of it to get track power on one rail, but what did you do to get track power on the insulated side of the truck?

    Kindest regards,

    Alan Mende

  2. Hi,

The NWSL drive had pick-ups (wipers) on both sides, so no additional pick-ups were needed for it. I added wipers to both sides of the other truck for additional pickup. I isolated the truck from the frame. This configuration gives very good pick-up and very few stalls.
