Picture of the Day – Feb. 19, 2009

Dofasco.  Hamilton, Ontario

Dofasco

I shot this image 3 years ago on an exploration trip around the industrial areas of Hamilton.

update

I have been asked what was done to the image as it looks a bit edited.

Here is the image in its original form.  I adjusted the contrast to remove some of the “haze” in the image.  A bit of saturation and sharpening was also done.

  1. But what did you do to the photo? That hardly looks like ‘as shot’!

  2. What I like about the altered shot is how much it looks like it’s of a model railroad structure when you first see it (other than the smoke coming out of the smoke stack).

But the original shot is certainly not one that the Hamilton Tourist Bureau is ever likely to want to publish, that’s for sure! My lungs are aching just from looking at it…

  3. I agree. the Second has a certain “otherly world” look to it that makes one think he may be looking at a model. Originally, I thought it might be an HDR image, but looking at the original, I can see that it has those latent qualities that make it stand out.

  4. Tim: Any idea what that structure is? Coke oven? (I don’t know if they do their own coke in Hamilton)
