Trimming and banding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the laminate (Masonite) was adhered to the top it needed to be trimmed flush with the edges of the plywood. A laminate trimmer makes short, but dusty work of this.<\/p>\n

This job creates a HUGE amount of dust!<\/p>\n

I am going to add a 1″ thick edge banding to the edge of the top. This was made from MDF that had the edges rounded over with a router. It will be glued and screwed to the top and since the location of the screws will be visible I made a drill jig that hooks over the top of the trim. This will ensure the holes are spaced an equal 6″ apart.<\/p>\n

This finishes off the edges of the top nicely.<\/p>\n

This is an ideal location for some storage for paints. I decided to add a couple drawers near the spray booth and ended up spending an entire day building them! I find drawers are the hardest things to build as any inaccuracies anywhere will show up in the finished work.<\/p>\n

For these I decided to build them as a separate unit and bolt it into place on the bottom of the bench. This allowed me to work in comfort at a bench. The drawer slides were salvaged from an old photocopier and were not exactly designed to be used this way. A bit of grinding and cursing and they fit right in!<\/p>\n

Seems plenty strong, holds this jar of paint very nicely.<\/p>\n

A sheet of 1\/4″ tempered Masonite is placed on the floor to protect it from the inevitable paint spillage.<\/p>\n

Thats it so far. Back to work tomorrow, holidays over. I had hoped to get this finished and all my stuff unpacked but it looks like it isn’t going to happen this week.<\/p>\n
