TTC Awesomeness

TTC

I found my self in Toronto (Etobicoke ) last week and to my surprise right next door was some of the coolest streetcar trackage I have seen in the city.

I believe this is the end of the TTC streetcar line and the location of the shops (I’m sure someome can correct me if I’m wrong).  Naturally, this also included some very complex trackwork, similar I would say to the track on the Bronx Terminal (well, almost).

I took what pictures I could from the sidewalk, and even that was raising some eyebrows.  I would love to get in there for a closer look.

Here is a map of the area.

And a bird’s eye view.

I can totally see getting into street car modeleing.  Just for the trackwork.

  1. That is the first time I have ever seen TTC and Awesomeness in the same phrase or sentence together. LOL!

The track work underground is equally impressive, even though it is rather dark in the subway tunnels. There is everything from slips to x-overs dotting the subway system. There are also those tunnels were the track disappears around a corner and you wonder where the heck it goes to. I like to stand at the back of the train to look at the track work during my daily commute. Some really fun geometry.

  2. I think that the trackwork pictured is at Ronsensvale Yard(spelling isn’t my strong point)…not sure though, knowing it is the west end of Toronto not in Etobicoke. (to the east of High Park, at the south end of the park, unless I am OTL, which happens often).

There may be some more coolness on the TTC out there, I know that I have at least one web page linked to at home with photos of various TTC coolness…not as cool as:

though :). (I have ridden a lot of hours on the TTC, I’ve been into Lower Bay (and been in the Star, it was a legal, not illegal, visit…)

Transit Toronto is the web site that I was thinking of…the web page has some interesting info on it about the TTC as a system.
