Real or Model?

Look closely….

I did a series of these “Real or Model” images on my old Port Kelsey Ry. blog and had a lot of fun with them.

The image above sure looks like some simple plastic N scale houses with oversize windows in them, buried in a clump of lichen and ground foam.

They’re not.

These are the real thing! I have always found it interesting how this technique in Photoshop can create such an illusion of a model. Scaled down exactly from the real thing, models would look pretty bad. We have to apply some weathering techniques to make them look like good models and not exact replicas of the real thing, sort of the reverse of the Photoshop technique.

The reality is the plastic houses seen on so many N-TRAK modules are closer to the prototype then we might think….
