White Tree

Any idea what it is?

I spotted this tree yesterday along the side of the road not far from here (Southern Ontario) . I don’t think I have ever seen one of these before. Its almost completely white, with no bark. Not a Birtch with its trademark paper bark, this has a smooth white surface and is quite large, like a full size oak or maple. Any ideas?

  1. A scion of the White Tree of Gondor? 😉

Seriously: a bit of Googling suggests an American Sycamore. Check back in summer when it’s in leaf.

  2. That link was supposed to point at the Wikipedia entry.
Did I screw it up, or does your blog s/w not accept embedded HTML in comments?
