Belly of the Beast

CNR 5700

Looking into the firebox of CNR 5700 steam engine on display at St. Thomas. Judging by the condition, I don’t think its had a fire in it recently….

Pointless Frog

Continuous Rail Turnout

This image was sent to me last week from a reader. It is a rotating frog turnout from a tram system in Europe (location unknown). The trains using this track use a form of track based braking that requires uninterrupted rail, to make this work at turnouts a section of rail is rotated to align with the route selected. Pretty clever, and would be quite reliable I would think (except in -30C under a foot of snow and ice).
