1904 Factory Floor

Westinghouse Wheel Room

An interesting vintage film from 1904 showing a long pan shot of the interior of Westinghouse’s streetcar wheelroom, featuring several dozen men with hammers.

They sure spent a lot of time banging things with hammers here. The finale is a guy with a real big hammer. Along the way (I think the cameraman was hung from the traveling crane) several men in bowlers and bow ties ensure the hammering is on pace.

Around the 1 minute mark I think part of the roof falls in, almost beaning a guy right on his bowler with what looks like a piece of pipe. Or perhaps someone let fly the hammer.

I don’t think we even have a hammer in our Fast Tracks fixture factory….

Its Portable, so Port it….

Bronx at John’s

If you open a layout for the Doubleheaders Layout Tour you miss the opportunity to see the layouts in the area that day, so the club organizes “Owners Tours” in the weeks following the tour. The area is split into four groups and each night one of those groups will open for the other three.

Since I live outside of the area and took the layout to Cambridge for the tour I would not be able to open for the owners tours. Well, the layout is supposed to be portable, to I ported it over to John’s last night for the tour. Here it is sitting in one end of his layout room.
