New Years Day

After waiting for an hour finally some traffic on New Years Day. Of course it is only one of those dull VIA passenger trains, which are only interesting if you are on one. They must have had a delay somewhere as this thing blew by at at lease 90mph! Following close behind was some freight traffic, which I missed….

We had a bit of snow overnight and that always makes for good picture taken’!

The CN line through Paris is one of the busiest in Ontario, except when I stand in the cold waiting for a train, then its a 90 minute wait. Froze my arse, but it was worth it as I got lots of good shots to post over the next few days.

Cheers!

Windmills

Erie Shores Wind Farm

We were in Delhi earlier this week for a Xmas dinner with Dad. A couple of blocks away is the new location of a transfer facility used to offload parts for the 100 megawatt windmills being built about 50 kms away along the shores of lake Erie.

These windmills are HUGE. Last summer we were down along the shoreline and stood under one, they are quite large and when looking up at the blades turning it is almost freighting. The columns for the turbines are brought in on flat cars and offloaded here waiting to be loaded onto trucks destined for the farms. I believe they are building over 100 of these windmills in the constant wind of the Erie shorelines.

Below is a cool slide show I found of some of the turbines being built….
