Re-Roof

Long overdue!

High on the list of necessities for our old house was a new roof, which finally happened last week.  We started hunting for a roofer in the spring, and it took until now to get one finalized, and get the job done.

In the end they did a great job, replaced the entire roof, new sheathing, felt and new shingles.  We also had all the eves and downspouts replaced and installed gutter guards to keep all the leaves out, which is a major issue here with 100 trees surrounding the house.

Layout Leftovers Modelling

This entire scene was built with parts leftover from my former Port Kelsey Railway layout, as well as our Tilt Table built to demonstrate Fast Tracks turnouts at train shows.

Didn’t even need any glue!

CNJ 1000

Oil-Electric Boxcab

In 1928

In 1928 the little 0-4-0 used at the CNJ Bronx Terminal was replaced with the first diesel engine built and operated in North America, this Oil-Electric CNJ 1000.  Fortunately, it still survives at the B&O Museum in Baltimore.

I have been meaning to make my way over there (about a 9 hour drive from here) to see this piece of history in person.  Last week a blog reader sent me a link to a gallery of 60 images he took during a recent visit to the museum.

I have actually been working on the brass model of this engine I bought off of eBay in the spring.  I will do an update on the progress shortly (once my house computer is working again).  I will include some more images of the prototype.
