Passing Ayr

New Trackage

When I drive into Kitchener from Burford I pass Ayr.  Over the last few months there has been some construction at the Trussler Road crossing, looks like they are putting in some long sidings.  Its always good to see tracks going in instead of coming out.

Anyone know more detail about this project?  I suspect it has something to do with the Toyota plants in Cambridge and now in Woodstock.

Here is a satellite image of the location, the image does not show the new construction. For some reason the Ayr area is in uber-high resolution. The individual ties are clearly visible.

Out of curiosity I copied the image into my CAD software and measured the turnout on the siding. Its a #12.

Fn3 monster

Tom Miller

The guys in this image look a bit small.  No, it isn’t a photoshop gag, this is a shot of Tom Millers Fn3 indoor layout.  Last week, during the Narrow Gauge Convention in Portland, Oregon, Clark Kooning took a few shots of this massive layout while on tour.  Here is the description of the layout from the tour guide…

“Fn3 D&RGW LAYOUT – Measuring 45ft. x 90ft. with a 26 ft. ceiling, this layout has all the details usually seen on an HO layout.

Hundreds of ft. of Llagas Creek nickel silver track and switches. Motive power is Accucraft and Berlyn. Rolling stock is Hartford Prod. Powered by NCE DCC. Scenery is Bragdon Ent. Geodesic foam. Mountains go as high as 12ft. Thousands of hand made trees and bushes. Modeled after Colorado narrow gauge in the 1940’s with scenes from the D&RGW and RGS. Custom built structures, some with complete interiors and sound effects. Custom built lighting changes from day to night over a 30 minute period. “

Simplicity

Proper Design.

I spend quite a bit of time swearing at the microwave in our office.  Why, oh why, doesn’t some manufacturer make one like this?  We really don’t need all the crap they (read: marketing)  seem to want to put on a microwave.  Really, has anyone ever used any of those settings?  We really just want to warm up our potatoes…
